Dr. Paul “Curtis” Carroll, Jr. assisting.  Interment will follow in Wesley Chapel Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 10 A.M. until service time, Saturday, August 15, 2020 at Rockett-Nettles Funeral Home Chapel.

Dick was born October 11, 1936 in Coushatta, LA and lived his entire life in Red River Parish.  Dick fought a brave fight with small cell lung cancer.  He went to be with his Lord on August 11, 2020.

He was 50 years old when he retired from DOTD as an equipment operator.  He retired so he could visit with his mother each day in the nursing home, which he did for 13 years.

After he retired, he laughingly said, then I really went to work starting to raise Registered Appaloosa horses and cattle.  He loved working on the farm, driving his tractor and tending to pastures and the livestock with his old dog, B.J., always with him.

He always laughingly said, he never finished a job so he could tell Diane he was busy if she came up with some of her honey-do jobs.  Of course, he always managed to do just about anything he could to help her-making old metal water troughs into flower beds, helping her plant her rose beds, making trellises for some of the flowers, etc.

He loved spending time with his family and always liked having wiener roasts and trail riding on our horses with family and friends.

He loved his Wesley Chapel Church and church family and being with them and never missed a Sunday unless he was sick.  He enjoyed Wesley Chapel and First United Methodist Church, Coushatta getting together for Bible studies, the Men’s Breakfast and other activities.

He was preceded in death by his father, Reuben Milner; his mother, Gladys Smith Milner Green and his stepfather, R.L. “Shorty” Green and one grandson, Jason Milner; his sister, Bobbie Lou Edwards; and his brother, Roy Milner.

Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife, Diane Hinckley Milner; his children, Robert Milner (Sue) of West Monroe, LA, Charlie Joe Milner of Coushatta, LA, David Woodell of Blanchard, LA and friend Barbie Thomas of Coushatta, LA; Donna Arender (Mike) of Minden, LA; and sister, LaNelle Claussen (Billy) of Hooks, TX.

He has seven grandchildren, Marie Woodard, Joey Milner, Michael Arender, McKensie Arender, Brandi Woodell, Daniel Woodell and Trey Milner; and thirteen great-grandchildren and one soon to arrive; numerous nieces and nephews and lots of friends.

Pallbearers will be Doug Dickson, David Woodell, Mike Arender, Bo Woodard, Michael Arender and Daniel Woodell.  Honorary pallbearers will be members of Wesley Chapel and First United Methodist Church, Coushatta, LA.

The family would like to express a special thanks to Dr. Coleman, Dr. Carter, Dr. Troxclair and staff of Christus Coushatta and to Dr. Boniol, Dr. Chan and staff of Christus Highland Oncology.  They would also like to thank their church family for all the food, prayers, cards and phone calls during Dick’s illness and Dianne Martin and staff at Rockett-Nettles Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Shreveport-Bossier Rescue Mission and Shriners Hospitals for Children.
