Superintendent Alison Hughes went before the Police Jury this week to discuss the future of the Springville Education Center campus. She said in two years the school system would have moved all of its classes to new facilities to be constructed at the high school.
Hughes says the school board is interested in putting that campus to use to benefit the community after they are through with it. Among the ideas discussed is making part or all of it available to the Head Start program.
The Springville Gym is not being used at present. It had been used as a community center, but Hughes said there is nothing happening in the gym at present. She said they plan to put up a fence between the gym and classroom building so it could be used right away by Head Start. Other possible uses of the facility could be explored as well.
The Police Jury passed a motion directing President Shawn Beard to appoint a committee to work with the school board on the future of the Springville campus. Committee members are Ben Taylor, Brandon Hillman and William Brown.
