On Tuesday, February 7th, Riverdale Academy had its annual basketball senior night where the senior basketball players and cheerleaders were honored. The presentation was held before the varsity girls’ game. Cheerleader Molly Seales is the daughter of James and Bethany Seales; basketball player and cheerleader Jessie Kate Cobb is the daughter of Rodney and Mary Vay Cobb; Ben Almond is the son of Will and Heather Almond; Thad Bates is the son of Heith and Hayley Bates; Mason Murray is the son of Tray and Melissa Murray; James Wagoner is the son of Chris and Crystal Wagoner; and Jace Wilhite is the son of JJ and Keri Wilhite.
The athletes and their accomplishments were recognized, and they were presented gifts from their coaches Cliff New and Katie Williamson and cheer sponsor Bethany Seales. During the presentation, the athletes presented their moms with red roses. These seven athletes have had a fantastic career at Riverdale, and they will be missed greatly next year.
The students, faculty, and staff have also been doing fundraisers for kindergarten teacher Debbie Johnson, who is at MD Anderson battling leukemia. The students’ latest project was selling bracelets that say “Pray for Mimi.” Also, the boys’ and girls’ varsity teams are now wearing shooting shirts that say, “Her fight is our fight.” Mrs. Debbie’s grandson Kyle is a junior on the Rebel basketball team, and the entire Riverdale family keeps her in our thoughts and prayers.
