Hot Vehicles Can Cause Child Deaths

The National Weather Service is passing along this warning on the dangers of leaving youngsters in vehicles.  The service said, “Sadly, 9 child deaths have already occurred in 2019.  As temperatures rise, keep in mind the graphic.”

How fast can the sun heat a car?  The graphic with this story shows the temperature can climb from 80 to 99 degrees in just 10 minutes.  And in 30 minutes the temperature will climb to 114 degrees.  It continues to climb an in an hour the temperature in the vehicle will reach 123 degrees.

The weather service passes on these tips for the safety of your child in a vehicle:

Never leave your child unattended.  Teach children not to play in, on or around cars.

Check to make sure child seating surfaces and equipment aren’t hot.

Always make sure all child passengers have left the car when you reach your destination.

And don’t overlook sleeping infants.
