Basketball Playoffs Just Around the Corner

Both Riverdale Academy and Red River High are sending basketball teams to the playoffs. Dates and opponents should be set in the near future. Riverdale has concluded its season and Red River wraps up district play tonight (Feb 9th) with boys and girls games at home against Lakeview.

Red River girls begin playoffs next week. Coach Missy Antilley told The Journal that the girls brackets will be set over the weekend and should be publicized by Monday. Antilley added that because of the team’s winning record they should be the host team for the first rounds of the playoffs.

Red River boys team finishes district play tonight, but they have two more matches before concluding their season. No word yet on playoffs other than the Bulldogs will most likely be in playoff competition.

Riverdale Academy wrapped up their regular season on Tuesday night. They move to the MAIS South A Tournament next week. It will be played at Rebul Academy near Learned, Mississippi. The bracket pairings will be released this weekend, however at this point it looks like Riverdale’s first games will be on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Journal Sports will cover as many of the playoff games from both schools as possible. We are working on overcoming technical obstacles to carrying the games from Learned, Mississippi. We will also stream Bulldog games when venues are selected.
