Dolet Hills Plant slated for demolition

The long-idled Dolet Hills Power Station is set to enter a new chapter as plans call for its demolition today, Monday, October 6, 2025. The decommissioned coal-fired plant, located in DeSoto Parish, has sat dormant since it ceased operations in 2021.

First opened in 1986 as a joint venture between Cleco and SWEPCO, it served for decades as Louisiana’s only power plant fueled by lignite coal, providing reliable electricity to the region. Today, the site is entering a new chapter as it transitions toward renewable energy development as the largest solar power installation in Louisiana

The demolition is expected to involve controlled dismantling and decontamination efforts, overseen by specialized contractor Total Wrecking and Environmental.
