Thomas Brings Home the Gold

By Randy Thomas, Jr.

Timothy Thomas played in the Tiki Bowl in Orlando on January 7th, 2021, which was also his 18th birthday. He played on team Kekoa (Hawaiian meaning the brave one/soldier) composed of players from Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, Georgia and Alabama. Thomas was selected as the starting center and played every offensive play of the game.

Team Kekoa scored early in the 1st quarter to take a 6-0 lead and never looked back. The half time lead was 20-0. They won by a final score of 30-14 to bring home a gold Tiki Bowl medal.

Timothy was asked about his experience and he said “It was a great opportunity and fun. I really enjoyed the entire trip, from Universal Studios to practicing, and most of all the game. I made some new friends and met several college coaches. This game allowed me to show these coaches what I can do on the field and open more opportunities to play at the college level. It was a great honor to represent Red River High School and Red River Parish in the Tiki Bowl.”

Thomas was also selected to play in the Louisiana Gridiron All Start game in Baton Rouge, but the game has been canceled due to Covid. He has now started his off season training and is focused on making the best decision to continue his football career and education at the next level. He would like to thank his coaches and everyone that has supported him throughout this experience and his entire high school career.
