Override the Governor’s Proclamation?

District 22 state Representative Gabe Firment spoke out in support of an effort in the Legislature to limit or reverse Governor John Bel Edwards on actions the Governor took to combat the COVID-19 virus.  Here is Firment’s post:

“I would like the citizens of District 22 to know that I have signed a petition that would override the governor’s emergency proclamations that have restricted our Constitutional freedoms to earn a living, provide for our families, and worship as we see fit. We are a free people who have the right to make our own decisions regarding our health, families, and livelihoods. We need signatures from 53 representatives to override the governor’s Order and reclaim our personal liberties and independence.”

Ferment’s posting references an article from David Jacobs of the Center Square:

(The Center Square) – Louisiana House Republicans have revitalized a petition to overturn Gov. John Bel Edwards’ COVID-19 emergency declaration, seeking to end restrictions on businesses and churches meant to control the spread of the disease.

Rep. Alan Seabaugh, a Shreveport Republican, circulated a similar petition in late April. That petition failed to garner majority support, possibly due to concerns about losing federal funds that Seabaugh said were unfounded.

Edwards has since loosened some of the restrictions, allowing some businesses that were closed to reopen and allowing others to have more people inside, though only up to 50 percent of normal capacity.

The article was published on June 25th.  That is the same day Governor Edwards signed the latest proclamation keeping Louisiana in Phase Two for another 28 days.  The full Center Square article refutes the claims made by Rep. Seabaugh had made concerning the proclamation issued by the Governor.
