Dancing on the Great White Way

Two local Red River Parish students embarked on the trip of a lifetime as they ventured to New York City to dance on a Broadway stage at St. James Theatre and in Time Square as part of Dance the World Broadway. They are Madison Hillin and Addison Bounds.

Madison Hillin is a sophomore at Red River High School, and Addison Bounds is a 7thgrader at Red River Junior High. Both girls attend Power and Grace School of Performing Arts in Shreveport. Maddie is a member of the senior company and Addison currently takes ballet and contemporary classes.

The studio invited a select number of dancers to attend the event, both girls leaped at the opportunity.

While in New York City, the girls were able to attend several different workshops with highly renowned dancers and choreographers, some of which included: Disney Movement and Music Workshop, Master Class with the cast of Hamilton, a Next Level Performance Workshop with Ella Glasgow and Corbin Bleu, and the Broadway Tap Master Class with Thommie Retter.

Nonetheless, it wasn’t all work and no play, the girls also took some time to enjoy some of what New York City has to offer, including a Broadway musical, Radio City Music Hall, the Statue of Liberty, and the Central Park Zoo. Maddie and Addison got to experience something that most dancers only dream about, dancing on a Broadway stage at St. James Theatre and in Time Square.

Both girls did exceptionally well during the performances and learned so much during their short time there. They would like to thank Power and Grace School of Performing Arts for giving them this once in a lifetime opportunity.

The Journal thanks Jana Bounds and Margaret Hillin for sending this report and pictures.
