Graveside services for Tommie Sue Jowers Forrest of Coushatta, LA were held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday December 4, 2018 at Holley Springs Cemetery, Martin, LA with Rev. Dr. Paul “Curtis” Carroll, Jr. officiating. Services are under the direction of Rockett-Nettles Funeral Home.
Tommie Sue Jowers Forrest was born to Zeddie and C.O. Jowers on February 5, 1931. She was an only child and cherished her relationship with her parents. Tommie Sue passed away on December 2, 2018 at the age of 87.
Tommie Sue graduated from Coushatta High School and married her childhood sweetheart Milton Ray Forrest. They were able to celebrate their 68th wedding anniversary together. A graduate from Draughon’s Business College in 1949, Tommie Sue worked at Sunbeam Corporation for several years as a secretary.
She then opened the Men’s Haven, a retail men’s clothing store, and delighted in selling the latest fashion to men of all ages. Following her retirement from the Men’s Haven, she continued working with men’s fashion by renting tuxedos for special occasion wear. Later, Tommie Sue worked at the Red River Parish Council on Aging where she was the craft department director.
Since her childhood, Tommie Sue collected well over 1000 Santas and displayed them proudly in her home. She enjoyed playing Rook with her friends and won many tournaments and competitions.
She worked diligently in the community of Red River Parish, serving in her younger years in many capacities, including president with the Red River Jaynes. Tommie Sue was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She also worked for many years with the Red River Chamber of Commerce promoting Red River Parish. Tommie Sue was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Coushatta, Louisiana.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Zeddie and C.O. Jowers , son-in-law Philip Guidry and husband, Milton Forrest. She is survived by her daughters Debbie Guidry of Coushatta, Louisiana, Rhoda Bethard and son-in-law, Robert Bethard of Coushatta,
Louisiana, grandsons, Caleb Guidry and wife Christy of Frierson, Louisiana and Silas Guidry of Coushatta, Louisiana, granddaughters, Kassie Williams and husband Josh of Coushatta, Louisiana, Kara Bethard of New Orleans, Louisiana, Kallie Bethard of Shreveport, Louisiana, and Kambrie Bethard of Lafayette, Louisiana and her great grandchildren Slayte Guidry, Milton Guidry, P.J. Guidry, Kiptin Williams, Robby Williams, and a very special niece that has cared for her lovingly, Karen Forrest Holladay of Bossier City, Louisiana along with two sister- in-laws, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Caleb Guidry, Silas Guidry, Kassie and Josh Williams, Kara Bethard, Kallie Bethard, and Kambrie Bethard.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Holley Springs Cemetery, 1019 Hwy 786, Coushatta, Louisiana, 71019, First United Methodist Church of Coushatta, 2018 Front Street, Coushatta, Louisiana, 71019, or the recipient of donor’s choice.
