Red River High School Firefighter I students got a valuable dose of real-world experience recently thanks to support from the Red River Fire Department, which brought its HazMat trailer to campus for hands-on training.
On Tuesday, January 13, 2025, students learned how to properly set up a decontamination site for hazardous materials incidents—an essential step in protecting first responders, patients, and the public during HazMat spills or exposures. The training allowed students to apply classroom knowledge in a realistic scenario and gain a better understanding of what emergency response operations require in the field.
School officials expressed appreciation for the continued partnership and mentorship provided by the Red River Fire Department, noting that opportunities like this help prepare students for the demands of the fire service and strengthen the pipeline for the next generation of firefighters.
The training opportunity was shared by Instructor Toni Rodgers, who praised the department’s support and the meaningful learning experience it provided for students.
