Congratulations to Riverdale’s Gracie Almond. She signed a track scholarship Thursday. She will attend East Texas Baptist University. Almond is an outstanding athlete competing in many sports, and she is a member of the girl’s State Basketball championship team.
Saturday is Refurbish Coushatta day. Volunteers are asked to come to Front Street and help finish the work that the town began last week. On Thursday afternoon fireman Alex Tucker had Engine 5 on Front Street washing the dirt away. That is necessary so new parking lines can be painted.
Also Saturday there is a fundraiser Crawfish Boil at Quality Ford. Proceeds go to improvements and renovations for the Bridge Teen Challenge Women’s Center in Charenton, LA. Boiled crawfish will be sold for $4.00 per pound. You may pick up the crawfish starting at 11:00 am.
You have seen the signs around our area asking you to share the road and watch out for motorcycles. May is “Motorcycle Awareness and Safety Month.” Area riders are being offered the opportunity for extra training to become more skilled riders.
The Department of Public Safety’s “Motorcycle Safety, Awareness, and Operator Training Program” currently offers Basic, Intermediate, Advanced, and Instructor training courses and promotes motorcycle awareness projects. Tonight and Saturday are the last nights of the Red River Crusade at the parish fairgrounds. It is sponsored by the Red River Baptist Association and there will be a hamburger supper starting at 5:30 and the service begins at 6:30.
The grand finale of the Buddy Bonnette Memorial Golf Tournament will take place Saturday, May 19 at Northwestern Hills Golf Course. The tournament was originally organized in 2001 as a fundraiser to support the Dr. A.R. “Buddy” Bonnette Endowed Scholarship created in 1998 to benefit NSU students in the Department of Health and Human Performance. After Bonnette’s death, the tournament continued to flourish for 17 years. With this final event, the value of the endowed scholarship will exceed $100,000.
