There is a fan drive going on in Shreveport sponsored in part by KSLA-TV. They are collecting fans from throughout the Ark-La-Tex to benefit the Caddo Council on Aging. Fans are distributed to Councils on Aging in Red River and other neighboring parishes.

Last Saturday (July 8th) the Journal took part in the Red River Classic Mustang Club’s fan drive. First, get the old Mustang out of the garage. You have to let it idle for a while. When you’re over 50, it doesn’t get going as fast as it once did. Then we had to stop for breakfast at the VFW Post in Bossier City for their Saturday morning breakfast fundraiser.

After breakfast we leisurely motored to KSLA-TV on Fairfield Avenue. There we were met by a producer/photo journalist who shot the video you saw on Channel 12 Saturday night. In addition to about 30 fans the Mustang Club had collected, the club presented a check for $500.00 to buy more fans.

There are pictures of the producer filming our arrival (the other side of the camera from the video that aired), the many classic to new Mustangs that took part, and the club members giving something back to the community.

Although this story isn’t exclusively Red River Parish news, it is published in the hope that our readers will get involved with the local council’s fan drive this summer. You can take a fan or make a donation to the Red River Council on Aging on Front Street. Call 932-5721 for more information.

There is also the hope that the Mustang drivers in Red River will join the Red River Classic Mustang Club. Maybe you too can make a contribution to improving the lives of our neighbors in Northwest Louisiana through your club participation. And you will have an enjoyable time meeting with other Mustang enthusiasts.
