Last Thursday afternoon the Red River Parish Library’s meeting room rang with laughter and screams of delight. It was puppet theatre time, one of the programs in the Library’s Summer Reading and Activity program.
The Journal encountered Jean Hymes observing her grandson Tristen making a hand puppet. She said, “I think it’s great for kids in summer. It gives them something for them to do. And the kids really enjoy it.”
Jean is from St. Paul Baptist Church on Highway 783. Thursday she brought three kids from the church in addition to her grandson. She says they have made all of the Library’s summer programs except for two.
Children’s Librarian Karla Sims estimated there were about 30 kids at the Library for puppet making. The library had two puppet theatres set up. The children had an opportunity to “write and act out” their own puppet theatre. As you can see from the pictures, they really got into it.
