Our library believes that supporting our local authors is important for our parish and our communities. Some of our authors are no longer with us, but remembering them keeps them in our hearts and their books on our shelves and available to our
readers.

One of our best-known local authors was born in 1950 and grew up in the newspaper family of The Coushatta Citizen. Suzannah Davis worked for her family’s paper, was an honor graduate and a drum major at Coushatta High School (now known as Red River High School), and was an organist at St. George Catholic Church. She graduated from Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, Cum Laude in English. She worked as a librarian and a social worker before launching her career in the early 80’sas a novelist.

Suzannah published her first novel, No Bed of Roses, in 1984, and at the time of her death, she had written 22 novels, which have been translated into more than a dozen different languages.  The book Devil’s Deception was her most popular book, according to the Goodreads website.

Suzannah not only raised a family and wrote novels, she also wanted to help other writers.  She was a charter member of the Northwest Louisiana Romance Writers as well as a member of the Romance Writers of America.  “The Suzannah” writing contest, which is named in her honor, is held every fall.  Suzannah passed away in 1996 at the age of 46.

Our library has a display dedicated to Suzannah Davis in our history room.  There is a picture of her with a short biography.  In addition, there are several copies of her books which are not allowed to circulate because we want to keep them as part of the display.  However, we have several copies of her books which have been donated so that those who enjoy her books may continue to check them out and read them.
