CHRISTUS Health will join communities in north Louisiana and nationwide in recognizing National Rural Health Day on Thursday, celebrating the dedication and resilience of rural health professionals, organizations and the communities they serve.
As a rural hospital, CHRISTUS Coushatta Health Care Center plays a vital role in providing care close to home for families who might otherwise travel long distances for emergency services, imaging, rehabilitation and specialty care. The hospital reflects CHRISTUS Health’s mission to extend the healing ministry of Jesus Christ through accessible, local care.
“Rural hospitals serve as critical pillars of community well-being, providing high-quality care while supporting local jobs, economic stability, and regional resilience.” said Brandon Hillman, administrator of CHRISTUS Coushatta. “Every day, our physicians and Associates deliver quality care close to home, helping families focus on recovery instead of long trips for treatment.”
Rural communities often face health disparities, including limited access to specialists. Many rural hospitals are designated as Critical Access Hospitals, with 25 or fewer beds. CHRISTUS Coushatta Health Care Center helps bridge these gaps by offering services such as:
- Advanced imaging technology
- Cardiology
- Ear, nose and throat specialty
- Emergency care
- Hematology/Oncology
- Rehabilitation services, including physical, occupational and speech therapy
- Mammography and preventive screenings
- Pulmonary Rehab
- Women’s health
- Wound care
In addition to expanding health care services, CHRISTUS Health provided millions of charity care and community benefits last fiscal year to strengthen the communities it serves.
“We’re proud to serve the Coushatta community,” Hillman said. “Just as neighbors look out for one another, our hospital provides care that is personal, connected and rooted in genuine community commitment.”
