
Several people are facing charges of illegally hunting at night, along with other charges in two separate incidents this past weekend. There have been arrests and tickets issued in the case.
Agents from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries broke up a group of hunters Sunday night. Lieutenant Kenny Baulkom told the Journal that six people were issued citations for illegally hunting at night. There were also license violations found. And one individual was arrested on a charge of being a felon in possession of a weapon. In addition, Baulkom said two deer were seized.
Baulkom said the hunters were in the Coushatta vacinity on private land and hunting in the dark. He said there was another hunting at night incident last Saturday night but he referred the Journal to Wildlife and Fisheries in Baton Rouge. They have not responded to requests for information.
Coushatta Chief of Police Kevin Stafford confirmed for the Journal that one person associated with Coushatta Police was involved. Stafford said the individual was a part time officer. Stafford said he had not been working for the department for several months and he was not on duty Sunday night.
Latest information available to the Journal is that one person had been booked on a firearms charge. There were six individuals cited on the hunting violations.
