Little Rebels Looked Good in Jamboree

By Molly Seales

The Little Rebels traveled to Monroe, Louisiana for the jamboree to begin the 2021 season. They took on the Claiborne Academy Rebels and the Franklin Academy Cougars in a controlled jamboree, where the offenses and defenses were limited to 15 play each.  The Little Rebels showed the work they have been putting in this preseason at practice.  The Little Rebels patented Wing T, 3 yard, and a cloud of dust offense was rolling both games behind the blocks of Morgan Moseley, Trevor Bell, Rylan Tingle, Jase Johnson, Ryder Shaver, Blake Davis, Jace Baxley, and Drew Curry.  According to Coach Silas Guidry, “The crowd and the mini cheerleaders had our boys pumped up, and they played some good ball on Saturday.” Guidry added, “The defense also played aggressing and smart, stuffing most plays before they even got going.”

Jackson Hillman led the team in tackles and also added one fumble recovery.  That wasn’t the only takeaway for the defense as Jax Hearold, who also moonlights as the team’s quarterback, added an interception of his own.  Kane Milner-Dortlon, Lane Mancil, Trevor Bell, Morgan Moseley, and Karson Milner-Dortlon all turned in a great defensive performance.  Coach Brandon “Jumbo” Hillman was pleased with his defense and said, “Our boys played hard and aggressive. I was very pleased with what I saw.  We had a lot of positives to build on. We will go back to work at practice this week.”

The Little Rebels offense had a total of 292 yards. Quarterback Jax Hearold had one completion to his target Kaden McNeely for 19 yards. Hearold also had 6 rushes for 57 yards and 2 touchdowns. McNeely had 5 rushes for 70 yards and a touchdown, while Hillman had 5 rushes for 38 yards and a touchdown.  Kane Milner-Dortlon had 4 rushes for 42 yards, while his brother Karson had 1 rush for 16 yards. Caden Spradley, who is only a 3rd grader, had 1 rush for 13 yards, while 4th grader Sam Murray had 1 rush for 2.5 yard, only one step from scoring his first touchdown.

The Little Rebels will be in action at home in their season opener on Tuesday, September 21, against the Claiborne Academy Rebels.  Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30.  Come out and support your Little Rebel football team!
