On Wednesday evening, July 22, Riverdale Head Football Coach Jared Smelser released the Rebel’s football schedule on his facebook page.  The Rebels have been conditioning and are ready to get the season started.  I had the opportunity to ask Coach Jared and a few of the player for their thoughts about the upcoming season.

“First and foremost I’m excited to be back.  Riverdale has always been my heart, and everyone that knows me, knows how much I love this place.  I’m thankful for another chance to be a leader at Riverdale.  One of my goals has always been to make individuals better, not only at sports but at life.  I want them to improve a little everyday and to grow spiritually.  Football practice started last Monday, and there is excitement in the air.  They are excited for the sport and to get back to normalcy.  Football provides both,” Coach Jared said.

Practice is Monday through Friday 8:30-10:30 with no pads until July 27^th

Incoming freshman Hayden Hillman, who is playing his second year of varsity football said, “I’m looking very forward to this year’s season.  I think many great memories will be made with my teammates and Coach Jared.”

“We’re all excited to have Coach Smelser back.  We believe it’s going to be a good season.  We just have to take it one game at a time,” said sophomore James Wagoner.

“I am very excited for the return of coach Jared and working with him again. We have some great talent on this team, and we can’t wait to develop it even more.  I am looking forward to playing with my teammates for my senior year,” said Brennan Edie.  Edie is a returning starter and is sure to bring great leadership to a fairly young team.
