Red River Will “Opt Out” of Mask Requirement

Red River is one of three parishes in the state that Governor Edwards gave the option of not adopting the requirement for wearing a mask or face covering.  Red River’s incidence of the virus was 94.37 cases per 100,000 persons over a two week period.  The requirement for masks is 100 or more cases per 100,000 over that same time period.

From Shawn Beard, President of the Red River Parish Police Jury:

Red River Parish citizens, in reference to Governor John  Bell Edwards mask proclamation number 29 JBE 2020 , the Red River Parish Police Jury President Shawn Beard and the Jury has elected to opt out of this mandate. This opt out is completely within the parishes rights as stated within the Governor’s Proclamation due to the Parishes low COVID count numbers. This is stated in section 4 paragraph F.

What does this mean for you as citizens of Red River Parish? This means the parish will stay in phase two, being your choice to wear a mask.

Businesses will continue to operate like they have been in phase two at 50% occupant capacity set by the state fire Marshal,  being each stores right to choose if they want customers to wear a mask in their establishment.

Church’s and gatherings will stay as they have been in phase two.

We want to remind you if you are sick, stay home, keep practicing social distancing and continue to wash and sanitize your hands.
