Celebrations in Stressful Times

Look out your kitchen window.  Things appear normal for spring.  Flowers, bees, birds and the grass is growing.  But that does not tell the whole story.  Coushatta has a nighttime curfew.  Travel is restricted to necessary business.  Restaurants have closed their dining rooms.

There will be celebrations of Easter all over the parish.  Today is Good Friday and many churches are planning special services tonight.  Those will be carried on social media instead of having the faithful fill the houses of worship.

First Baptist, First Methodist and Martin Baptist have notified The Journal that they will be conducting Good Friday services on Facebook.  All begin at 6:00 pm tonight.

Three churches in the parish will be on Shreveport television this weekend.  KTBS and KPXJ are offering free air-time for them to present their Easter message.  Here is the line-up:

Martin Baptist Church – 2:30 pm Saturday – KPXJ 21

First Baptist Church – 4:00 pm Sunday – KPXJ 21

Social Springs Baptist Church – 5:30 pm Sunday – KPXJ 21.

KTBS/KPXJ Sales Manager Lindsay Dean told The Journal that they are providing free air-time to 36 area churches.  Dean said, “We are doing it as a service to the community.  Even with the coronavirus there is still a way for people to connect with places of worship.”  The complete schedule can be found on KTBS.com.

Most churches will have Easter morning services on their Facebook pages.  The Governor’s Stay Home order caused the cancellation of the Sunrise Service from Grand Bayou.

Open Door Fellowship is offering a drive through communion and prayer time Sunday morning.  That will be from 8:00 am until 9:00 am.

It is not what we are all accustomed to.  However many ministers for as long as anyone can remember have preached that the church is not the building.  Now we all get an opportunity to see for ourselves if we, and not the building, are the church.
