The Red River Parish Police Jury has approved a new program for home buyers in the parish. The action came at the April meeting of the jury.
The proposal was made on March 4th by Kristin Delahoussaye, the Lending Program Manager for Capital Area Finance Authority. She explained, “We’re local in eight parishes so we had to have Police Jury permission to offer it to potential home buyers in Red River.”
When she was notified of the program’s acceptance by the Police Jury she said, “I am thrilled that it was approved. This will allow CAFA to expand its Northwest Louisiana footprint to include Red River.”
Securing down payment is one big obstacle to becoming a homeowner. Delahoussaye said, “We help potential buyers over the hurdle of a high down payment. They have to qualify as usual for the loan. We can help with the down payment, closing costs and prepaid items.”
Delahoussaye explained that they would come to local banks first and partner with them to get local loans. She said, “This is not restricted to first time homebuyers, however we work to educate first time homeowners.”
There would be no cost to the parish to implement the program. CAPA does charge a fee for their services and they propose to split that fee with the parish.
“Now that it is approved,” Delahoussaye added, “We will be letting our lenders know that they can use us to make local loans.”
