Look around you. The way we live has been radically altered. It is in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. It has changed the way we live, work and play.
Coushatta is under a curfew that applies to everyone. The town has mandated that citizens be off the streets from 8:00 pm until 6:00 am each day. Compliance has been very good, based upon The Journal’s observations.
Our newly remodeled and expanded town park is closed. There is yellow police tape and closure notices to bar visitors. The ballpark is closed and the stands and dugouts vacant.
Many businesses have adopted “non-contact” ways of doing business. Banks, the drug store, and restaurants have closed their inside store. Business is conducted by phone and the drive-thru. The lines at times grow long. They all ask your patience for the new way business has to be conducted.
Even the Christus Coushatta Health Care Center and Dental Clinic have had to curtail their ways of doing business. The hospital has limited access to the facilities. For full details please see Christus Coushatta Expands Telehealth Services in The Journal March 30th.
The Library and Courthouse are closed to the public. Librarian Trey Lewis told The Journal they hope to be back open soon. At the courthouse many offices have closed or are doing business by appointment only. Entry is severely restricted to necessary business by appointment.
On a sad note, the virus and Stay at Home order have disrupted funerals. The pattern adopted is usually a brief graveside service with a promise for a more formal memorial service in the future. We are having to change the way we say “goodbye.”
