The Red River High School girls basketball team celebrated their last win at home on Thursday sending them off to Lake Charles for the top 28. The girls will play Thursday at 2:45 against French Settlement. If they win Thursday’s game they will go on to the finals on Saturday.
Coach Missy Antilley had a few words to say about this year’s season along with a few of her players. Antilley said, “We are excited about going to the top 28 this year. It is a fun experience that not many high school athletes get to experience. I have a good feeling about the games this year. We have worked hard and remained focused all year. This season has been a lot like the seasons before. We have always had a great group of girls who work hard and are dedicated to getting better and working hard.”
Morgan Payne also said how she felt about the championship, “I feel very excited and feel this is an opportunity to bring the championship back to Coushatta. I hope the games go as planned, all we have to do is play defensively and everything will fall into place. This season has been the best yet, we have prepared more than ever. We have a team that coach wishes to have, we just have to show people what we are capable of doing, and get the job done.”
Makaila Lewis also known as Seed by her fellow students said, “I feel excited and feel like we can win this whole championship. I hope the game will go good and as planned so we can win. This season as a whole compared to other seasons I think has been the best, it is the one where we are going to bring it all the way home with the championship win”
Superintendent Alison Hughes announced school closing Thursday for the playoff game. Hughes said, We are very excited to announce that our Red River High School Lady Bulldogs Basketball team has advanced to the state semifinals. The game will be played on Thursday, March 5th at 2:45pm in Lake Charles Louisiana. Due to this early game time and the number of staff and students who will be attending, we will be dismissing school all day on March 5th.
Hughes said, “We will also be taking two spectator buses to the games. The price to ride the buses to the games will be $10.00. Anyone wishing to ride must contact the Red River High School Office by Wednesday, March 4th.”
