Students came back to school yesterday. Bulldog fans flocked to the gym last night to see their basketball teams. Most local fans were unable to go to the out of town tournaments that took place over the Christmas break. They were not disappointed.
Lincoln Prep from Grambling came to town for a double header. The Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs rose to the occasion giving the fans some action they had missed recently.
At 6:00 the Lady Bulldogs kicked off the night with some great shooting and a runaway game. They defeated the Lady Panthers 66 to 42. Most of the scoring came from Makaila Lewis. Kaitlyn Antilley contributed several three-pointers to the victory.
The boys game followed. Both Red River and Lincoln Prep had ball control problems, and difficulties holding onto the ball. Emotions ran high among the full house of Bulldog fans and quite a few faithful who made the trip from Grambling.
Red River took control early and although Lincoln Prep narrowed the margin to two points several times, they never gained the lead. Final score Red River 73 and Lincoln Prep 65. Jaylon McDonald scored the most points for the dogs, however KJ Bradley put in 7 crucial free throws to keep things under control in the final quarter.
There was a new addition to the gym last night. Over Christmas break Mr. John Halmon and Coach Earl Martin hung up our new Red River Basketball banners. Thank you for getting these up, they look amazing. These banners go back to the start of Red River High and show every district championship, top 28, and state runner up in RRHS history.
Both Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs are ranked in the top 10 in the state in 2-A. They will be back in action Friday night against Holy Savior Menard. First game starts at 6:00 pm.
