Want to Be a Public Servant?

The qualifying period for the fall elections is just a few days away.  Anyone wishing to run for public office will qualify Between August 6thand August 8th.

Red River Registrar of Voters Debra Jones told The Journal that local candidates will file with the Clerk of Court’s office and pay their filing fee.

The current Assessor is retiring so that will be an open office.  All other offices have an incumbent.  So far there has been no indication that any of those would not seek re-election.  “We’ll see who qualifies,” said Jones.

There are three declared candidates for Assessor and one person is campaigning for Clerk of Court Stewart Shaw’s seat.  The offices up for election are Clerk of Court, Assessor, Sheriff, Coroner, and all members of the Police Jury.

The election is on October 12th.  Early voting will be conducted at the Registrar of Voters office September 28ththrough October 5th, except for Sunday September 29th.

  1. PLEASE NOTE: Qualifying will be done in the Clerk Of Court Office not the Registrar’s Office.
