There was another train derailment along LA 1 on Sunday. It occurred in south Caddo Parish and blocked travel from Red River into Shreveport for most of the afternoon.
A release from the Caddo Sheriff’s Office said the train came off the tracks and blocked both lanes of Highway 1 near the Caddo and Red River Parish line.
Train cars did not turn over, only several wheels left the track. Crews came in and corrected the situation. The highway was closed approximately 4-5 hours, and traffic was diverted to Highway 175 and to I-49.
Late Sunday afternoon the highway reopened. It was the fourth time recently that portions of state highways in Red River and Caddo parishes had been blocked by a derailment. Two times water trucks crossing the tracks had collided with trains. LA 1 was down to one lane, or blocked completely to allow cleanup of those two incidents.
Another time several cars of a train came off the tracks but did not turn over. That incident blocked LA 509 at LA 1 for a couple of days.
