The Pine Belt Head Start held an open house last Thursday (October 25th). The themes included Fire Prevention, Parent-Teacher Conferences, and meet the candidates.
Center Director Jacqueline Williams said there were 38 children in attendance at the open house. The kids were excited as several members of the Red River Parish Fire Protection District talked to them about fire prevention and firefighting. Captain Marcus Cox and Firefighters Brandon Dowlen, Colby Bryant and Kaleb Walker brought several fire units.
Damp weather that day prevented the kids getting to crawl on and in and under the fire trucks, however the entire neighborhood and nearby Springville Education Center campus were rocked by the blowing of the sirens. Firefighters brought their tools inside an each child had an opportunity to hold and work with a fire hose nozzle.
Director Williams told The Journal, “Our open house is an annual event held at Head Start each October because October is national Head Start Awareness month. Williams said they have three openings at the present time. Anyone interested can call Head Start at 932-3720 to get more information or to apply.
