Recently 50 students at Red River Junior High completed a hunter safety course. School Superintendent Alison Hughes says they worked with Roger Longino and the sheriff’s office to send the kids through the class work sessions and go to the Sheriff’s range and shoot. Hughes says one is planned for the high school this spring. And she adds this will become an annual offering at the Junior High level.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development’s Secretary, Shawn D. Wilson, Ph.D., announced Monday, Dec. 11, that all oversize and overweight vehicle movement on all State highways will be prohibited on Monday, December 25 through Tuesday, December 26, in observance of the Christmas holiday. In observance of the New Year holiday, vehicle movement will be prohibited on Monday, January 1 through Tuesday, January 2, 2018.

Wilson said the decision was made in conjunction with the Louisiana Department of Public Safety, Office of State Police, to provide maximum safety for motorists traveling on State highways during this holiday.

The Truck Permit Office will also be closed Monday, December 25 through Tuesday, December 26, and Monday, January 1 through Tuesday, January 2, 2018.
