A tractor-trailer rig got stuck on the railroad track at the south end of River Road early Wednesday. According to workers at the scene, no one was injured when an early morning train collided with the truck.
The driver of an empty salt-water truck attempted to cross the railroad tracks. There is a large hump in River Road approaching the tracks. The trailer became stuck on the tracks. The driver is said to have unhooked he trailer and moved the tractor out of the way when he saw a train approach.
The train hit the trailer, which then collided with the crossing signal towers and control box located just south of the intersection. It took several hours for wrecker crews to move the trailer out of the way. Railroad work crews spend most of the day Wednesday repairing and replacing the damaged signal equipment.
