The Town Council voted Tuesday night to call tax elections for the November 18th ballot. Mayor Johnny Cox explained to the council that nothing is changing. Cox said, “We already have these taxes in place. This is just a renewal that has to be done every ten years. Council members Peter Drake, Brian Nash, Janice Lewis, and Reginald Prealow, Jr. voted for the resolution. Council member Edna Webb was absent.
Here is the breakdown of the propositions:
Proposition 1: Maintenance and Operation of fire related equipment and providing water for fire protection – 1.05 mills. Estimated income from the tax $12,600 annually.
Proposition 2: Maintenance and Operation of public buildings and recreation facilities – 3.15 mills. Estimated income from the tax $37,800 annually.
Proposition 3: Maintenance and improvement of streets in the town – 1.05 mills. Estimated income from the tax is $12,600 annually.
