Saturday the Cowboy Church youth group held a car wash at JKM Glass in the Maxway center. Fundraiser was organized so the church could take 17 kids to Camp Walk on Water near Stuart Oklahoma.
The camp is for pre teens and teens. It is run by AMER (American Fellowship of Cowboy Churches) and lasts 5 days, June 29-July 4. Camp WOW is themed to cowboy activities such as roping, steer wrestling, catch & brand calves, and other ranch duties.
Children from Red River Cowboy Church have been attending this summer camp for the past several years. Strong support for the trip comes from church members who donated in memory of Joe and Butch LaVasseur. The LaVasseurs were members of Red River Cowboy Church and strong supporters of the church youth group.
Michelle Castello & husband Paul plus Katie Arthur & Angela Bullock are the sponsors who will be accompanying the kids. Several area businesses plus church members have provided sponsorships for the youth. If you would like to help out contact Michelle Castello at 318-471-4011.
Castello explained, “This is a summer church camp with a difference. The youth participate in Bible studies & prayer groups that are related to the daily chores of a cattle ranch.” She added “One example is a trail that is up hill and down with obstacles and various tasks along the way. The youth leader explains to the participants how that trail relates to their individual walks with Jesus.”
Georgia Dowden is a young lady who participated in the car wash. She said “I am going to learn more about Jesus and have fun doing it. The chore I enjoy most is being with the animals”
Another participant, Jacob Durr said “I am looking forward to working the cattle. I want to be a Wrangler at camp so he can take a leadership role with younger kids”. Durr is 14 this summer and can be a Wrangler next summer.
The Red River Cowboy Church youth group meets Wednesday nights at 6:30. Cowboy Church is located on Highway 1 at LA 174 at lake end.
