You’ve seen the dirt work… the slab being poured…and now the exterior is going up…but what is being built across from Dairy Queen? It is a new voting machine maintenance and storage facility.

The old facility has served well for years and years. According to John Perkins, an Election Technician with the Louisiana Secretary of State’s office, the new building is projected to be ready for occupancy by mid-March.

Perkins says the new building will have much more room than the current facility on Highway 71. In fact he says it will be almost twice as big.

Perkins has worked for the Secretary of State since 2012 when he replaced Ray Penny who with his father had taken care of the voting machines used in the parish for decades.
