Henry and Bradley win school board seats; Jenkins and Miller head to December runoff

Red River Parish voters decided two of three contested School Board races Tuesday, November 3, while a third will be settled in a December runoff. Rachal Henry claimed the District 3 seat, Kenneth Bradley won a close contest in District 5, and Sharon Jenkins and Alan Miller will face each other again in District 4.

All precincts have reported in the three School Board races, according to unofficial election results from the Louisiana Secretary of State.

Henry Wins District 3

Rachal Henry secured the District 3 School Board seat with 189 votes, or 51% of the total. Stephen Giddens finished second with 112 votes (30%), followed by Jacob Caldwell with 67 votes (18%).

Henry received enough votes to win outright in the three-candidate race, eliminating the need for a runoff. All three precincts reported, with unofficial voter turnout at 49.1%.

District 4 Headed to Runoff

The District 4 School Board race will continue into December after none of the three candidates received a majority of the vote.

Sharon Jenkins led the field with 211 votes (48%), followed by Alan Miller with 123 votes (28%). Alvester Barfield received 103 votes (24%).

Jenkins and Miller will advance to the December 12 runoff election, giving District 4 voters another opportunity to decide who will represent them on the School Board.

All five precincts reported, with unofficial voter turnout at 52.6%, the highest among the three contested School Board districts.

Bradley Claims Narrow Victory in District 5

District 5 produced the closest School Board contest of the night, with Kenneth Bradley defeating Monique McDuffy-Jones by just 19 votes.

Bradley received 205 votes (52%), while McDuffy-Jones finished with 186 votes (48%).

All three precincts reported, with unofficial voter turnout at 49%.

Four School Board Members Elected Without Opposition

Four additional School Board seats were decided during qualifying when no opponents entered those races.

Melinda Hardy will return to represent District 1, while Reginald Prealow will continue serving District 6. Both will begin their second terms.

Renee Hester will join the School Board representing District 2, and Joey Miller will take the District 7 seat. Both were elected without opposition.

With the results of Tuesday’s election and the unopposed seats, five of the seven School Board districts will have new representatives. The final seat will be decided in the December runoff.

Maxwell Wins Constable Race

In another contested local race, Tangela Maxwell won the Constable–Justice of the Peace District A seat, receiving 546 votes (63%).

Cherlonda Raymond received 324 votes (37%).

All nine precincts reported in the race, with unofficial voter turnout at 40.1%.

Looking Ahead

With Tuesday’s results, six of the seven Red River Parish School Board seats are now decided. District 4 voters will return to the polls on Saturday, December 12, to choose between Sharon Jenkins and Alan Miller.

All election-night results remain unofficial until certified by the Louisiana Secretary of State.
