Don’t forget to turn back your clocks this weekend! Daylight Saving Time ends Sunday, November 1, at 2 a.m., when clocks will move back one hour to 1 a.m. That means an extra hour of sleep, but it also brings earlier sunsets and darker evenings. Most smartphones and electronic devices will adjust automatically, but remember to turn back manual clocks before going to bed Saturday night.
Despite years of discussion about ending the twice-yearly clock changes, Americans are still required to spring forward and fall back. In July 2026, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Sunshine Protection Act, which would make Daylight Saving Time permanent. However, the legislation has stalled in the Senate, where lawmakers have not reached an agreement. Louisiana passed similar legislation in 2020, but it cannot take effect without a change in federal law.
Until Congress takes further action, the twice-yearly time changes will continue. In the meantime, this weekend is also a good opportunity to check the batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
