Traffic was diverted Sunday evening near the Red River Parish Library after an 18-wheeler struck a power pole at the intersection of Highway 84 and Ringgold Avenue in Coushatta.

According to officials, the impact knocked down the pole, causing a power line to fall across the roadway and creating a hazard for motorists.

Town of Coushatta police officers secured the area and rerouted traffic around the affected section of Highway 84/71 while crews responded to the scene.

The utility company began repairs by 7:45 p.m.
