Red River Parish resident David Pickett has been named the Pelican Crappie Club’s 2026 Senior Angler of the Year, earning the highest overall point total among all amateur divisions, including Amateur, Male/Female and Senior. The Senior Angler of the Year title recognizes anglers age 60 and older for their performance throughout the tournament season.
Pickett has not missed a Pelican Crappie Club tournament since 2025, traveling to lakes across Louisiana and neighboring states to compete in all kinds of weather. His dedication and consistency helped him secure the season-long honor.
In addition to his Angler of the Year title, Pickett received the 2026 Largest Amateur Big Fish award for a 2.89-pound crappie caught during the Raising for the Risers Benefit Event in June. He also finished fourth in the 2026 Pelican Crappie Club Championship, held October 9–10 at Lake D’Arbonne.
Pickett’s accomplishments highlight an outstanding year of competitive fishing and bring recognition to Red River Parish.
