Police Jury discusses building delays, library policies

The Red River Parish Police Jury met October 7, received departmental updates, and discussed delays in construction of the new administrative building.

Following the prayer and pledge, the meeting was opened for public comments. No visitors addressed the jury.

The Commercial Vehicle Department reported collecting more than $50,000 in permits and approximately $11,000 in citations. Officers issued citations for trucks operating without permits and for trucks traveling on roads marked “No Trucks.”

The ambulance representative submitted a report but had to leave for an emergency before the meeting. All repairs and upgrades remain ongoing, according to the update.

Acting Library Director Dr. Mary Adkins reported that the Library Board had updated its employee pay scale to reflect current pay levels. The board is also preparing for training on the state Open Meetings Law and reviewing employee background check and drug-testing policies. Those steps are expected to precede renewed efforts to find a permanent library director.

No representative from the Fire Protection District attended the meeting.

Discussion also turned to construction of the new administrative building. Parish President Davis reported difficulty obtaining materials, including trusses that are currently unavailable and other items on backorder.

Police Jury President Murray reminded members that the project deadline remains September 2027 despite the supply problems.

Murray also asked District Attorney Julie Jones to assist with discussions involving mineral leases and the mineral board.
