The LSU AgCenter Red River Research Station will welcome visitors for two days of agriculture, education and family activities when the 4th Annual Louisiana Homesteader Conference & Expo returns Oct. 16–17.
The free event will be held at the Red River Research Station, located at 262 Research Station Drive in Bossier City. Activities are scheduled from noon until sunset Friday, Oct. 16, and 8 a.m. until sunset Saturday, Oct. 17.
The conference is designed for everyone from experienced homesteaders to families interested in learning more about growing food, raising animals and becoming more self-sufficient. Presentations will cover a variety of topics, including poultry and egg production, backyard rabbits, raising meat and milk goats, small-scale beef production, food preservation, meat processing, vegetable gardening, fruit trees and small fruits, and backyard beekeeping.
More than 100 craft and homesteading vendors are expected, giving visitors an opportunity to browse products, supplies and services while learning from others involved in agriculture and sustainable living.
The event is also being planned as a fall outing for families. Activities include a free corn maze, hayrides, children’s activities, photo opportunities, sunflower, cotton and pumpkin patches, and other hands-on agricultural experiences. The 4-H program will also have a refreshment booth.
Saturday will feature special guests Anna and Bruce from “Swamp People,” who are scheduled to appear from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Admission to the Louisiana Homesteader Conference & Expo and the corn maze is free.
