Friends of Louisiana Sports and History will host Dolly Parton Bingo on Friday, Oct. 9, at the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame and Northwest Louisiana History Museum, 800 Front St. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and bingo starts at 6 p.m. The evening features games built around Dolly Parton’s songs and style, along with prizes, light refreshments, beer and wine. Guests are encouraged to dress as their favorite version of Dolly. Admission is $25 at the door and $15 for FLASH members, and organizers suggest bringing extra cash for the evening. Proceeds support FLASH, which funds museum exhibitions, educational programs and special events.

Mt. Zion Baptist Church invites the community to enjoy a performance by the Southern Plainsmen Quartet on Sunday, October 11, at 10:30 a.m. The church is located at 5404 Highway 783 in Coushatta. A love offering will be taken during the service. Pastor Larry Carr and the congregation welcome everyone to attend this special morning of gospel music.

The Red River Parish Sheriff’s Office will offer a free Louisiana Hunter Education Course this fall for those interested in completing the state’s hunter safety training. The course will be held October 17-18, 2026, at the Red River Parish Sheriff’s Office Firing Range, 7605 Highway 371 in Coushatta. Classes will run from 7 a.m. until noon each day. The course is limited to 37 participants, so those interested in attending are encouraged to register early. Applicants must create an account and preregister through Louisiana Outdoors.

Historic Grand Cane is gearing up for a festive October with the Grand Cane Spooktacular Fall Fair Market on Saturday, October 24, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will feature arts, crafts, a variety of vendors and family-friendly fall fun. Mansfield State Historic Site will host “Ghosts of the Battlefield” on Saturday, October 24, from 7 to 9 p.m. Visitors will take an evening walk through the historic Civil War battlefield, exploring what happened after the fighting ended. The experience will highlight the confusion, loss, medical emergencies and personal stories of soldiers following the Battle of Mansfield. Admission is $6 per person, $4 for seniors and free for children ages 6 and under. The historic site is located at 15149 Highway 175 in Mansfield.

The 2026 Pine Beetle Festival will take place Saturday, November 7, beginning at 8 a.m. in Castor. The annual community festival brings residents and visitors together for a day of celebration and small-town tradition. Mark your calendars for this fall event in neighboring Bienville Parish.
