Six Historically Black Colleges and Universities in Louisiana will receive a combined $14.2 million in federal funding, U.S. Sen. John Kennedy announced Wednesday. The money comes from the U.S. Department of Education as part of a larger one-time investment in HBCUs nationwide.

Grambling State University will receive $2,886,853, one of the larger awards in Louisiana. The remaining funds include $3,281,192 for Southern University A&M College, $2,513,428 each for Southern University at New Orleans and Xavier University, $1,535,355 for Dillard University and $1,476,067 for Southern University-Shreveport.

The U.S. Department of Education announced more than $174 million in additional one-time HBCU funding nationwide this week. The department said the investment is intended to strengthen HBCUs and support their work in education, workforce development and economic opportunity.

For North Louisiana, the awards put nearly $4.4 million combined into Grambling State and Southern University-Shreveport.
