A free food giveaway will be held Tues Sept. 29, at 9:30 a.m. at Pine Belt Agency, 1719 Fairground Road. The giveaway is open to the public, and participants should bring a bag, clothes basket or box to carry their food items.

The Northwestern State University Wind Symphony will open its 2026–27 concert season with a concert titled “Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue” on Tues Sept. 29, at 7:30 p.m. in Magale Recital Hall. Sci-Port Discovery Center will be temporarily closed Sept 28–Oct 2 for deep cleaning, reorganizing, making improvements, and preparing some exciting new additions around the center.

LDWF will host its annual Mother-Child Families Understanding Nature (FUN) Camp Oct. 16-17 at Waddill Wildlife Refuge in Baton Rouge. The free camp is open to mothers and children ages 10-13 and offers families a chance to spend time outdoors together while learning outdoor skills. Meals, lodging and supplies, including tents, are provided, although participants should bring their own bed linens and sleeping bags. Pre-registration is required and space is limited.

The Top of the Boot Music Festival is coming to Natchitoches October 16-17, bringing two nights of country music to Northwestern State University. Festival activities and music are scheduled from 4-11 p.m. each day. Friday’s lineup features Lee Brice, Dylan Scott, Lanie Gardner, Jackson Wendell and Clay Labeff, while Saturday features Flatland Cavalry, Ian Munsick, Rodney Atkins, Laine Hardy and Bottomland. The weekend will also include food vendors, arts and crafts vendors and festival merchandise.

The Village of Hall Summit will host Trunk or Treat Oct 17 from 5-9pm at the Hall Summit Community Park. Everyone is invited to decorate a trunk and pass out candy. For more information call Town Hall at 318.304.8078.
