LSU dropped to No. 10 in the latest AP Top 25 following a 32-24 loss to Ole Miss on Saturday. The Tigers entered the weekend ranked No. 7 but slipped three spots after the defeat, while Ole Miss climbed from No. 8 to No. 4. LSU remains one of 10 SEC teams ranked in this week’s poll.

Northwestern State University will welcome students’ families to campus Sept. 25-26 for Family Day 2026, a weekend of activities that will give families an opportunity to experience campus, Natchitoches and NSU gameday traditions with their students. Family Day check-in will begin at 2pm. Saturday at Family Day Headquarters on the east side of the NSU Tailgate Field behind Turpin Stadium. Families can pick up tailgate picnic tickets, game tickets and T-shirts at check-in. The NSU Family Tailgate Party will begin at 2:30pm with music, games, contests and other activities. A tailgate picnic will be served from 2:30-4:30pm Individual meal tickets are $10. A pregame pep rally will begin at 5 p.m. at the Tailgate Field with performances by NSU Cheerleading, Purple Pizazz Pom Line, Demon Dazzlers and the Spirit of Northwestern pep band. The pregame show will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by kickoff between NSU and Southeastern Louisiana at 6 p.m.

Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood will celebrate “Dolly Day” on Sept. 25 at Friends in Low Places in Nashville, with the day’s proceeds supporting children’s literacy in honor of Dolly Parton. The date, written as 9/25, is a nod to Parton’s famous song “9 to 5.” Proceeds from the event will benefit Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library and Nashville Public Libraries, continuing Parton’s longtime commitment to putting books in the hands of children. Brooks and Yearwood have also said they hope to make Dolly Day an annual tradition.

The Corn Maze in Shreveport will open for the season on Saturday, Sept. 26, at 8540 Highway 71. The fall attraction will feature the corn maze, pumpkin patch, hayrides, barrel train rides, slides, swings, games and other family activities, along with food trucks, retail vendors and live music.

Scientists have identified a new wild cat species in Bolivia known as the tilcayo tiger cat. Smaller than a typical house cat, the spotted feline was first mistaken for a domestic kitten before being taken to a wildlife sanctuary, where researchers later determined it was a previously unrecognized species. The discovery marks the first new living cat species formally identified in more than 100 years.

A new Charters of Freedom display will soon be unveiled outside the Capitol Park Museum in downtown Baton Rouge. The exhibit will feature replica copies of the Declaration of Independence, U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights and will be open to the public free of charge, 24 hours a day. According to Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser, the installation will be the first of its kind in Louisiana and is being created with support from Foundation Forward founders Vance and Mary Jo Patterson. The Capitol Park Museum is part of the Louisiana State Museum system and highlights the state’s history and culture.
