The library has several activities planned this week. Workforce Connect will be available Tues Sept. 15, from 10am to 2pm, followed by Genealogy Meeting on Wed at 10am and Storytime on Fri at 10am The library will also be open Sat Sept. 19, from 9 to 1.

Red River High School will celebrate Homecoming on Fri Sept. 25, with a full day of activities bringing together students, alumni and the community. Tailgating begins at 10 a.m. at the Old Sunbeam location, followed by the Homecoming Parade at 1 p.m. from the ballpark. The celebration continues that evening as the Bulldogs take the field for the Homecoming football game at 7 p.m. This year’s theme, “Two Schools. Two Names. One Legacy,” honors the shared traditions of Coushatta High School and Red River High School.

The national average price for diesel has climbed above $6 per gallon for the first time, a sharp increase from about $3.70 a year ago.

Northwestern State University welcomed its largest entering freshman class in three years this fall, with 1,120 first-time freshmen choosing NSU for fall 2026. The class represents a 6 percent increase over last year and continues a trend of growth in Northwestern State’s traditional student population.

K-12 teachers can receive a free full-size American flag for their classroom through the Eisenhower Foundation and IKEducation’s Our Flag, Unity for All program. The America 250 initiative also includes free, ready-to-use lessons and educational resources about the history and significance of the American flag. Teachers can request a flag through the Eisenhower Foundation’s website.

The 2026 Atlantic hurricane season has set a new record for the latest start without a hurricane in the modern satellite era. Although several named tropical storms have formed this season, none has reached hurricane strength.
