Construction on the new Jimmie Davis Bridge (LA 511) over the Red River has reached a major milestone, with girder installation complete and the structure now fully connected across the river. The $361 million project includes a new four-lane bridge north of the existing two-lane span, along with widened approaches and improved ramps to increase traffic capacity and flow. Work will next focus on construction of the bridge deck, while the existing 1968 bridge is being prepared for conversion into Louisiana’s first linear park with walking and bicycle paths. The overall project remains on track for completion in mid-2027, weather permitting.

Raising Cane’s is celebrating its 30th birthday with a special museum showcasing three decades of the Louisiana-born restaurant’s history. The Raising Cane’s Museum, located behind the company’s original Baton Rouge location at 3313 Highland Road, features memorabilia and highlights from Raising Cane’s journey since founder Todd Graves opened the first restaurant in 1996. The museum will be open to visitors through the end of September.

The Top of the Boot Music Festival is coming to Natchitoches October 16-17, bringing two nights of country music to Northwestern State University. Festival activities and music are scheduled from 4-11 p.m. each day. Friday’s lineup features Lee Brice, Dylan Scott, Lanie Gardner, Jackson Wendell and Clay Labeff, while Saturday features Flatland Cavalry, Ian Munsick, Rodney Atkins, Laine Hardy and Bottomland. The weekend will also include food vendors, arts and crafts vendors and festival merchandise.
