The Red River Parish Library will host two free Computer and Internet Security workshops on Tuesday, Aug. 25, led by Tobin DeVille, who has presented several technology workshops locally in recent months.

The first session will begin at 10 a.m. at the Red River Parish Library and focus on computer security. DeVille will discuss ways to protect computers and personal information from hackers, including tips for creating stronger passwords and taking steps to prevent unauthorized access to sensitive information.

A second session will begin at 2 p.m. and focus on internet security. Participants will learn how to recognize whether a website is legitimate, identify potential online threats and know what to do if they accidentally visit a suspicious website or encounter malware that could damage a computer or compromise personal information.

The workshops are free and open to the community, and participants may attend one or both sessions. There is no need to bring a computer to participate.

Organizers hope the workshops will help more residents feel confident protecting themselves and their information online. Suggestions for future workshop topics are also welcome.
