The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for much of the ArkLaTex on Wednesday as dangerously high temperatures and humidity combine to create life-threatening conditions.

Afternoon heat index values are expected to range from 110 to 120 degrees, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses for anyone spending time outdoors. Residents are urged to limit outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day, drink plenty of water, wear lightweight clothing, and take frequent breaks in air-conditioned or shaded areas.

Officials also remind the public to check on elderly neighbors, young children, and those without adequate cooling. Never leave children or pets unattended in a parked vehicle, where temperatures can rise to deadly levels within minutes.

The dangerous heat is expected to peak Wednesday afternoon before gradually easing later in the week.
