After 46 years of dedicated service, Liz Cannon is retiring from the Red River Council on Aging, bringing to a close a career devoted to improving the lives of senior citizens throughout Red River Parish.

Cannon began her career with the Council on Aging in 1980, joining the organization shortly after graduating from high school. Over the years, she served in a variety of roles, gaining firsthand knowledge of the programs and services that support older adults in the parish. In 2008, she was named Executive Director, a position she has held for the past 18 years.

During her tenure, Cannon helped oversee services designed to promote independence, health, and quality of life for local seniors. Under her leadership, the Council on Aging continued to provide nutrition programs, transportation, homemaker assistance, wellness initiatives, caregiver support, and activities that allowed older residents to remain active and connected within the community.

Those who have worked alongside Cannon describe her as a dedicated leader whose passion for serving others has made a lasting difference in the lives of countless families. Her commitment extended well beyond the office, as she became a familiar face to seniors throughout the parish and an advocate for programs that helped them maintain their independence and dignity.

As she looks ahead to retirement, Cannon plans to spend more time with her children and grandchildren, travel to places she has long hoped to visit, and enjoy meaningful moments with friends and loved ones. After decades of service to others, she is eager to embrace this new chapter filled with relaxation, family, and new experiences.

After nearly five decades of public service, Cannon leaves behind a legacy of compassion, leadership, and unwavering dedication to the citizens of Red River Parish. Her impact will continue to be felt for years to come through the programs she helped strengthen and the many lives she touched along the way.
