The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has elevated the recall of certain Zapp’s and Dirty brand potato chips to a Class I recall, the agency’s most serious classification, because of a potential Salmonella contamination. The recall affects only select flavors, sizes, and “best by” dates after a seasoning ingredient containing dry milk powder from a third-party supplier was linked to the possible contamination. Although no illnesses have been reported, consumers are urged not to eat the affected chips and should discard them or return them for a refund. The affected products include select varieties of Zapp’s Bayou Blackened Ranch, Salt and Vinegar, and Big Cheezy chips, along with Dirty brand Salt and Vinegar, Maui Onion, and Sour Cream & Onion chips. A complete list of affected products and batch information is available on the FDA’s recall website.
