Red River High School announces new band director

Red River High School has announced the hiring of Louis Edward Lemons Jr. as the school’s new band director.

A native of Coushatta and graduate of Red River High School, Lemons is returning to his hometown with a passion for music education and a commitment to investing in the next generation of students. He earned a Bachelor of Music Education from Grambling State University, where he performed with the university’s renowned World Famed Tiger Marching Band. He later earned a Master of Music Education from Jackson State University in 2024.

Lemons began his teaching career at Peabody Magnet High School, where he led successful band programs that earned recognition at marching competitions and consistently received strong ratings at district music assessments. He also worked to strengthen the band’s presence throughout the Central Louisiana community through performances and outreach.

In 2025, he joined Arthur F. Smith Middle Magnet School, where he continued developing young musicians while serving as a mentor teacher and taking on additional leadership responsibilities.

A Life Member of Kappa Kappa Psi and a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Lemons believes music helps students grow not only as musicians but also as leaders, scholars, and responsible citizens. He is committed to creating an environment where students are encouraged to work hard, build confidence, and take pride in representing their school and community.

Returning to Red River Parish marks a meaningful homecoming for Lemons. He looks forward to building a band program that students, families, and the community can be proud of while continuing the tradition of excellence at Red River High School. His vision is to develop a program that shines throughout Coushatta and earns recognition across Louisiana.
